Welcome to Kindergarten!

Each morning children will have a special routine they will follow beginning with unpacking their backpacks. Students will meet for a morning meeting. This is an important time for students to build relationships with their classmates, learn rules, expectations, and hear exciting news for the day.

Our Language Arts curriculum consists of three components: Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop and Wilson Fundations. Units of Study in the Workshops include all the teaching points, mini lessons, conferences, and small group work for a comprehensive curriculum. The Wilson Fundations curriculum provides students with a systematic program in the foundational skills for reading and spelling, emphasizing phonemic awareness, phonics-word study, high frequency word study, fluency, vocabulary, handwriting and spelling. The students participate in independent reading and writing exercises putting what they learned into practice on a daily basis.

Our Go Math! curriculum is extremely fun and interactive.  Students will be learning concepts of Algebra, Geometry, and Measurement.  We implement plenty of guided exploration and inquiry to help students draw conclusions on their own.  Students will develop a stronger concept of number sense.  Our math program is very hands-on and the students really love it!

Our Foss Science curriculum explores the following units: Trees and Weather, Materials in Motion, and Animals Two by Two. In these units, the students will conduct hands on and virtual explorations. Students will prove their knowledge by keeping a science notebook. Ask them to share Science topics with you.

In kindergarten, our students will be introduced to four strands in Social Studies: history, civics, geography, and economics. This course utilizes and inquiry-based approach designed to engage students in an exploration of their world and their place in it. This course supports students’ literacy development and fosters an appreciation for diversity in a multicultural society.

Recently, our Parsippany Troy Hills School District adopted a Social Emotional Learning curriculum: Sanford Harmony. The program is designed to build relationships through lessons and activities that include Five Units: Diversity & Inclusion, Empathy & Critical Thinking, Communication, Problem Solving & Peer Relationships. All the topics are integrated across all subject areas throughout the day. Kindergarten students quickly took a liking to the program mascot, “Z”!

Kindergarten is interactive, fun, and challenging.  We are so excited to start this journey with your child.  We are certain it will be a year filled with smiles, laughs, and learning.  We appreciate all the support you provide at home as well.
